The area gets its name from a rocky headland separating it from Playa Brasilito known as Punta Conchal, which is composed of hundreds of millions of tiny crushed shells.  Featuring some of the clearest waters on the Gold Coast, snorkeling is an excellent activity.  You will be able to see a wide array of marine life as you swim with the many tropical fish that dwell here, and maybe even catch a glimpse of a stingray.  The area also offers more adventurous tours such as deep seas fishing, scuba diving, and other water sports.  

After your fun in the sun at the beach, check out the national parks and nature reserves, and even a small estuary.  Spend a few nights in a fancy resort, or enjoy one of the areas in Play Conchal where you can camp out under the stars.  For the avid golfer, the 'Garra de Leon' Golf Course is located just a meters from the beach.  This Robert Trent Jones Jr. championship course is considered to be one of the best in Central America.  Bordered by forest to one side, you can often hear and sometimes see the howler monkeys that live there.

Conchal Beach is accessible by air from San Jose to Tamarindo Domestic Airport, where you can take a 10 minute drive in your Costa Rica car hire.  You can also drive all the way from the Liberia Airport, which will take around 45 minutes.
